The Ri received its Royal Charter in January 1800 and the Monarch has been its Patron ever since. The current Patron, Her Majesty The Queen reopened the Ri after a £24 million refurbishment in 2008 with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and the Institution’s long serving President HRH The Duke of Kent.
